CAM seminar

This seminar was very interesting for many reasons. First of all, I liked that we actually got to interact with some first and second year med students. That was really cool, being treated like we knew what we were doing for the most part. I also liked the presentations. The acupuncture was interesting. I liked the pictures that he included along with the actual hands-on acupuncture that he did on a few of the students in the room. The chiropractic presentation could have been better. I felt that it was mostly about not having an ego and referring patients then chiropractic. More slides, pictures, patient stories, or examples would have been great. The last section that I went to was the manipulative medicine. I was interesting learning how you can find out if a person is "even" or not and learning how to stretch out the muscles. I really liked it though, because I had actually taken anatomy and physiology the year before so remembered what they were talking about.

The walk to the Med school wasnt bad at all. Even though some people like Anthony Miller II still ask for rides. I feel totally comfortable walking there by myself and I know the many ways there by heart.

I thought that the seminar this month was a lot better than last months. I'm glad that i went through the training so that i was able to participate in the trials. The rotarod experiment was interesting and fun to get to try. The mice were hard to make stay on the rod, but after we learned how to do it, it was fine. The machine was also a little hard to work, but again, we got the hang of that too. The auditory experiment that we participated in was a little less interesting. I was able to understand the data that we pulled up on the screen though. I learned that rumpshakers have worse hearing than the wild-type mice. Overall, this seminar was very good.

I was kind of disappointed by the Medstart seminar on Saturday. I thought that there would be more hands on things for us to do. I guess that it would have helped if I had understood the article we were supposed to read before going. I thought that the technology we were shown was pretty interesting though. Im kind of disappointed that I didnt get to go to Eastern Market with everybody too. I had a great time with Rinder and Nabeel at the chem study group though!! lol
